Environmental Health and Safety / Management
Gain the expertise to protect the environment, prevent injuries and save lives. In the field of Environmental Health and Safety / Management, you will ensure the safety of employees as well as work equipment and environments. Our programs within the Department of Public and Environmental Wellness prepare you for a successful professional career in this field.
The Master of Science in Safety Management (MSSM) focuses on occupational safety, health and environmental issues in the workplace. Develop the analytical tools and skills necessary for making sound health and safety decisions in the public domain, industry and business through an effective balance of health and safety classes, business administration coursework, and meaningful applications through safety-related case studies.
We offer a Management concentration for those looking to further their careers and a Technical concentration for those seeking to enter the field.
Save time and money, and increase your career and earning potential with the Environmental Health and Safety / Safety Management combined program. The program allows you to complete a Master of Science in Safety Management (MSSM) in about one calendar year after completing a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health and Safety. (Both degrees independently would generally take a minimum of six years.)
Nationally ranked and widely respected, our Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) program combines the basic sciences, applied safety sciences and management principles in order to help you become a successful safety professional. When you graduate, you will be prepared to become an effective safety professional - protecting people, property and the environment from harm - in virtually every occupational setting.
Minor
With a minor in Environmental Health and Safety, you will gain the skills needed to keep people, property and the environment safe. This minor is available to complement other majors in the School of Health Sciences and other programs, such as environmental health, human resource development, engineering, biology or chemistry.
Achieve your professional and career goals with the Environmental Health and Safety Management Graduate Certificate. Designed for working professionals, college graduates seeking entry into the field and current graduate students, this certificate will provide you with the knowledge and skills to become an exemplary safety leader without needing to commit to a full graduate degree. However, should you choose to continue your education, the certificate can also be applied to Oakland University’s Master of Science in Safety Management.
