Online Student Services

Regardless of whether you are a student sitting in an on-campus classroom or logging into a course from hundreds of miles away, Oakland University provides services to support you in your academic goals.

Our Online Learning Resources for Current Students page has information on how to get started as an online student, tips for succeeding in online classes, links to help documents and technical requirements for devices accessing Moodle for online courses. 

Below is a list of campus resources to help you find answers to questions about being a student at Oakland University.

Academic Advising

Most students have an assigned adviser that they can directly reach out to via email. Finding your assigned adviser is easy. Log in to MySail to find your assigned academic adviser right on the home screen. Under the My Details section, click the blue Adviser link on the right hand side. A box should pop up with your advising unit and/or adviser's name along with their contact information. A complete list of academic advisers for each of the units is available from Academic Advising.

Admissions and Recruitment

Admissions advisers are available virtually to assist you in navigating your OU journey, and would be glad to speak via phone, email or web conference. Find the admissions adviser who can help visit the Admission Meet the Staff page. 

There are also several upcoming admissions events, which will be held virtually while we follow appropriate social distancing rules.

Textbooks and course-related materials can be purchased through the campus bookstore, Barnes & Noble at Oakland University. These items may be purchased via their website using a credit card. Orders can be shipped via UPS or held for in-store pick up, when campus re-opens.

Career Services

Career Consultants are available virtually to help students with navigating their career futures. Schedule a virtual appointment or drop-in to the Virtual Career Studio, Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. You can also explore virtual resources for OU students alumni in the Handshake Resource Library.

Dean of Students

OU’s Dean of Students office empowers you with a supportive environment and sound advice. And if you don’t know who to contact for a specific situation, we are always a good place to start. Disability Support Services

Disability Support Services acts as an advocate for students with disabilities. This includes, helping students understand university policies and practices,  and assisting students in addressing personal and academic concerns. Financial Aid

Student Financial Services advisers are available at or by virtual appointment.  If you have a financial aid requirement that needs an in-person submission, please contact If  you're experiencing financial hardships due to the impact of the Coronavirus, consider the COVID-19 Student Relief Fund

Graham Health Center

Graham Health Center provides medical services to Oakland University students and staff (for workplace injuries or illnesses). The GHC has reduced lobby hours throughout the COVID-19 closure and telehealth appointments are available to those in need of non-life threatening medical attention. Library Services

While Kresge Library is currently closed, the librarians and staff have developed many resources that can be accessed remotely. These include contacting a librarian virtually, accessing research material and searching the eBooks, journals and magazine articles available through the library.  These are available from the Kresge Library remote resources page.

Registrar/Registration Support

Registration and Registrar Services can assist you virtually through email, instant message or web conference. Staff is available Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

OU Counseling Center

Students and staff members can use the Counseling Center for short-term services or to arrange for long-term resources. To schedule an appointment, call 248-370-3465.

Tutoring/Academic Support

The Tutoring Center offers new drop-in tutoring and supplemental instruction (SI) will be offered online through eSpace at the times noted on your class schedule in MySail. SI leaders are using Zoom.

Writing Center

The Oakland University Writing Center provides students and faculty from any area of study with well-trained consultants who help both novice and expert writers explore ideas, revise drafts, and develop the skills to craft polished works. While the Writing Center in Kresge Library is closed, writers can still get help. Real-time online appointments are available Monday through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays from 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. and Sundays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Appointments can be scheduled online. For questions that don’t require a meeting, there is also a Virtual Help Desk, which can provide answers to questions within a 24-hour period without the need for an appointment.
