Physician Assistant Science
Develop lasting and impactful relationships with patients, give back to the community and help create team-based care in the Physician Assistant (PA) profession. As a PA, you will develop and manage treatment plans, diagnose illness and prescribe medications, thus providing direct care to patients under the supervision of a doctor in a team setting. You will often be a patient’s principal health care provider, and as a member of this profession, you will be committed to improving healthcare access and quality.
Our Department of Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences offers both a graduate-level PA program as well as an undergraduate program specifically designed to prepare you for PA school.
The only program of its kind in Michigan, and one of only four programs in the country, our Bachelor of Science in Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences with a Pre-Physician Assistant (Pre-PA) specialization equips you to seek admission to any accredited PA program. Coursework is designed to create a strong foundation for your success in a PA program.
Master of Physician Assistant Science (MPAS) is a professional graduate program which equips you for licensure and entry into the Physician Assistant profession. Our program includes theoretical, clinical practice, and research courses and experiences that prepare you to function in a variety of settings.
Oakland University has applied for Accreditation - Provisional from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). Oakland University anticipates matriculating its first class in October 2024, pending achieving Accreditation - Provisional status at the June 2024 ARC-PA meeting. Accreditation - Provisional is an accreditation status granted when the plans and resource allocation, if fully implemented as planned, of a proposed program that has not yet enrolled students appear to demonstrate the program’s ability to meet the ARC-PA Standards or when a program holding accreditation-provisional status appears to demonstrate continued progress in complying with the Standards as it prepares for the graduation of the first class (cohort) of students.
