Management Information Systems
Helping organizations harness ever-changing technology and the data it provides to improve business operations and outcomes is the heart of a management information systems (MIS) career. An integrative, cross-disciplinary field, MIS experts are the bridge between business needs and technology. With an emphasis on finding solutions, MIS focuses on applying information technology to business problems.
This major equips students with the necessary skills to satisfy in-demand careers such as systems analysts, business application programmers, web developers and database administrators. With an emphasis on using technology to find solutions, the MIS major uses information technology as a tool.
Increase your scope of knowledge and expertise by adding one of two specializations available in this major:
The Business Analytics Specialization focuses on quantitative techniques and information technologies for supporting managerial decision making in business. Analytics includes creative use of large (and not so large) datasets, statistical analysis, data visualization, predictive analytics, simulation, data preparation and cleaning, data warehousing and business intelligence.
Through a collaboration with SAS, a worldwide leader in analytics software, Oakland University business analytics students also can earn a Tier 2 SAS Academic Specialization as part of their degree program. Learn more about the program here.
The Information Security Management Specialization focuses on protecting organizations’ information assets including intellectual property, competitive intelligence, business transaction records, and other strategic, tactical, and operational data.
