Specialty Legal Courses for Continuing Legal Education (CLE)

PACE’s ABA‑approved Paralegal Program offers rotating seven‑week Special Topic courses designed for focused CLE skill development. Offerings change each semester and cover timely areas of law such as Criminal Law, Immigration Law and other emerging specialties. Participants who complete a course receive a CLE Certificate of Completion to support ongoing professional growth.

Auto Law
This course introduces the basics of Michigan no‑fault law and auto insurance, including how to prepare an auto accident case, identify available benefits and damages, and understand first‑ and third‑party claims.

Criminal Law
This course introduces the constitutional protections afforded to individuals arrested in the United States and outlines how those rights function within Michigan’s criminal justice system.

Employment Law
This course provides an overview of the laws governing the employer–employee relationship, including hiring, wages, benefits, working conditions and termination, along with key discrimination protections.

Estate Planning and Elder Law
This course introduces key estate planning concepts, including wills, trusts, disability planning and essential tax considerations. It also covers core elder law topics such as special needs planning, protective orders, conservatorships and issues related to elder abuse.

Family Law
This course covers the substantive law related to dissolution of marriage, separation, annulment, guardianship and adoption, with attention to core procedures and required filings.

Immigration Law
This course offers a foundational understanding of immigration law, practice and procedure, preparing students to identify potential benefits and complete related petitions and applications.

Patents, Trademarks, and Copyrights
This course introduces the basics of patent, copyright and trademark law and prepares students to file state and federal trademark applications and copyright registrations.

Probate
This course examines probate practice under Michigan’s Estate and Protected Individuals Code, including petitions, inventories, accountings, claims and estate administration.

Real Estate
This course provides an overview of real property law, including ownership, mortgages, landlord‑tenant matters, zoning and the roles of principals, agents and brokers.
