Departments

The Office of Finance and Administration oversees the following offices on campus:

Controller's Office
The mission of the Associate Vice President and Controller's Office is to ensure the University is complying with all federal, state and regulatory financial guidelines.  The office provides fiscal accountability and safeguarding of  University's assets through adherence to generally accepted accounting principles and proper internal controls.  Departments within the Controller's Office include:


Facilities Management
The Facilities Management Department is responsible for an inclusive operation that ensures excellence in construction planning & design, engineering, energy and utility, sustainability, stormwater management, custodial, groundskeeping and operation & maintenance of campus facilities that support the needs of the students, faculty and staff of the University.   Our team is dedicated to providing a safe, comfortable, highly efficient and sustainable campus, while preserving the University’s physical heritage.  With ever-changing demographics, social expectations and evolving academic challenges, Facilities Management is committed to supporting the expectations of the campus and surrounding communities. Departments within Facilities Management include:


Budget and Financial Planning
The Budget Office assists executive management and the university community by compiling and disseminating information for planning and budgeting. The goals of the office are to direct the planning and budgeting cycle, to provide information for internal planning and the decision-making process, to facilitate the reporting requirements of the university, and to provide budgetary support services to the university community.


Oakland University Police Department
The Oakland University Police Department (OUPD) provides a full range of professional police services to the university community. All OUPD officers are fully licensed through the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES). The OUPD is committed to providing our students, staff, faculty, visitors, and guests with prompt, courteous, and professional police services. University Services
The University Services Department continues to strive for better, more updated products and services. Each of these departments provide necessary services to the campus, they include:


Risk Management
The mission of the Office of Risk Management is to help make a safe environment for students, faculty, staff and campus visitors. We are your resource for insurance coverages, and we will work to develop the best methods to manage challenges that may be encountered in creating and managing programs or activities.


Environmental Health and Safety
The Office of Environmental Health and Safety is an experienced team of trained health, safety, environmental and fire protection professionals that promote a safe, healthy and compliant environment in which to teach, learn, work, live and visit.  Our goal is to manage and interpret regulatory compliance information and provide high quality training, programming, environmental stewardship, hazard prevention, emergency preparedness and emergency response services to the campus community.


Laboratory Safety and Compliance
Oakland University's Office of Laboratory Safety and Compliance provides support and assistance to all university research and teaching labs with the primary objective to minimize the risk of injury or illness to laboratory workers. The Office of Laboratory Safety and Compliance provides guidance in the areas of; chemical hygiene, hazardous materials shipping, biological safety, laser safety, radiation safety and robotics safety.  Specialized services are provided in the area of emergency response, hazardous materials disposal, laboratory safety equipment certification and laboratory facility evaluations.  

Treasury Management - The Treasury Management department's primary responsibility is for the investment management and reporting for the University's endowment and working capital portfolios.  In both cases the department actively manages these portfolios with an external investment advisor approved by the University's Board of Trustees.  In each case, the department meets regularly with each advisor to ensure investment decisions are made in accordance with the Board approved investment policies.  The department also oversees the management of the University's debt portfolio and actively engages with an advisor to examine debt restructuring opportunities aimed at reducing the University's overall debt service expense.

Finance and Administration also helps to manage the operational activities, and serves as the campus liaison, for two of Oakland University's auxiliary operations, Meadow Brook Theatre and Meadowbrook Amphitheatre
