BIOJourney: Exploring Careers in the Biological Sciences

Your journey starts with what interests you and grows as you discover what’s possible.

A collaboration between the Career and Life Design Center and the Department of Biological Sciences, BIOJourney helps students connect their studies with their interests, strengths and future possibilities.

Through career exploration, hands-on learning, career treks and connections with alumni and industry professionals, BIOJourney integrates career and life design into the student experience, helping students discover the many pathways available with a degree in the biological sciences.

Through BIOJourney, you can:

  • Discover career possibilities in healthcare, environmental science, pharmaceuticals and beyond.
    • Discover how your biological sciences education connects to a wide range of careers. Reflect on what you enjoy, recognize the strengths you’re developing and explore how they might shape your future. Each experience can help you ask new questions and make informed decisions about your next steps.
  • Meet professionals and alumni who can share their experiences and answer your questions.
    • Employer Lunch and Learns offer welcoming spaces to meet professionals, hear their stories and learn about opportunities. Practice introducing yourself, asking thoughtful questions and building relationships with people who can offer insight into fields you’re curious about.
  • Step inside workplaces to see where your interests could lead.
    • Career treks take you into professional settings to explore how biology shows up in the workplace. Observe how teams collaborate, solve problems and apply their knowledge while considering which environments and opportunities align with your interests.
  • Showcase your strengths through your resume and portfolio.
    • Resume and portfolio workshops help you translate coursework, research and other experiences into examples of what you can contribute. Learn to communicate your skills clearly and prepare to share your story with employers and graduate or professional programs.
  • Build your next steps around your interests, skills and goals.
    • Student ambassadors and campus partners connect you with resources and opportunities to participate. As your interests evolve, BIOJourney helps you reflect on what you’re learning and turn those discoveries into meaningful action.
