Welcome to the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at Oakland University. Our Department was founded in 1984 within the School of Engineering and Computer Science. We pride ourselves for the student-centered approach to education and research. We offer Bachelor, Master, and Ph.D. degrees, have first class faculty with vibrant research programs and excellent teaching credentials, and enjoy serving a diverse and engaged student population.
Our students are the core of everything we do. The majority of our class sizes are between 20 and 30. Faculty members mentor the students in the classroom, as well as through small group development and research projects. The ACM and ACM-W student chapters are very active throughout the year. The CSE department has strong ties with the neighboring industries with ample opportunities for internships and careers.
The faculty of the department have active research programs in software engineering, multi-core computing, networking, computer security and forensics, human-computer interaction, and data mining and intelligent information processing. Their research has been funded by federal agencies such as the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the Department of Education, as well as industrial partners in automotive, medical, and defense fields. PhD, Master, and undergraduate students are directly involved in research projects.
The CSE department offers two Bachelor degrees (Computer Science and Information Technology), two Master degrees (Computer Science and Software Engineering and Information Technology) and a PhD program (Computer Science and Informatics). CSE also participates to a School-wide PhD in Systems Engineering. Welcome to CSE, and please contact us with any questions or suggestions.
