Dr. Bryan Guarnuccio is the second flutist in the Lansing Symphony and frequently subs with the Kalamazoo Symphony, Southwest Michigan Symphony, and the Michigan Philharmonic. He has also performed with the Traverse City Philharmonic, Flint Symphony Orchestra, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, and the Jackson Symphony where he may be heard as guest principal flute on the album Fernande Decruck Concertante Works: Volume 2 on Claves Records (2023).

With a true passion for chamber music, he is currently the flutist, artistic director, and arranger for Pure Winds – an active, Michigan-based woodwind quintet he joined in 2022. In addition to regular concert performances, the quintet presents grant-funded outreach programs to schools in the greater Lansing and Metro Detroit areas. Since joining, Pure Winds was invited to the 2025 and 2026 international Double Reed Society Conventions, which included a performance of his arrangement of “Winter” from The Four Seasons for wind quintet.

While at Michigan State University, he was a member of Fresco Winds, where he advanced in several state and regional competitions (MTNA and Tree Tops) as well as making it to the top six wind entrants in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. As a soloist, he has advanced
in several regional (MTNA, SEMFA) and national competitions (NFA Young Arist) as well as winning the MSU Outstanding Soloist Competition, which paved the way for his Carnegie Hall debut where he performed Liebermann's Sonata for Flute and Piano at Weill Recital Hall.

Bryan holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Michigan State University in Flute Performance. During his time at MSU, he served as teaching assistant for the flute studio and the theory department. Through the College of Music, he was awarded the Kenneth G. Bloomquist Award, a
Dissertation Completion Fellowship, several Graduate Travel Grants, the Leonard Falcone Scholarship, and the Stanley and Selma Hollander Endowed Scholarship for First Chair in Flute.

Prior to MSU, Dr. Guarnuccio completed his Master of Music degrees in Music Theory and Flute Performance from Bowling Green State University where won the Outstanding Thesis Award for his document: “Chant de Linos – A Sentential Analysis.” He also holds a Bachelor of Music, summa
cum laude from Honors College at Ball State University. During his time at BSU, he won the concerto competition playing the Ibert Concerto, which resulted in a guest recital and performance at Mukogawa Women’s University in Nishinomiya, Japan. He has also performed concertos with the Mason Symphony Orchestra, the Bowling Green (City) Orchestra, the Kokomo Park Band, the Ball State Wind Ensemble, and the Ball State Symphony Orchestra.

As a multi-instrumentalist, he spent several seasons at the Wagon Wheel Theatre in Warsaw, Indiana as well as several performances at the Riverwalk Theatre in Lansing, Michigan playing in the pit as a woodwind doubler as well as a pianist. He has also accompanied juries, solo and ensemble events, choirs, and the recitals of his students and professional colleagues throughout his career.

Previous university teaching engagements include St. Xavier University in Chicago, Illinois where he taught aural skills, music theory, and was on staff as an accompanist. He has recently presented masterclasses at Michigan State University, Bowling Green State University, and the MSU
Community Music School. Currently, Dr. Guarnuccio maintains active studios at the Flint Institute of Music and Marshall Music where he teaches flute, oboe, and piano.
