International Students and Scholars


The International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) is committed to the service, support, and advocacy of Oakland University’s International Student and Scholar population, with the goal of building an international campus which nurtures global citizenship and multicultural appreciation.


An inclusive and engaged international learning community where all students and scholars are able to achieve their academic and professional goals and objectives.

The office currently services over 1,100 International Students and over 40 Scholars and 117 dependents from over 60 countries around the world. We provide services to international students and scholars who need:

  • immigration-related advising
  • social and cultural counseling
  • orientation sessions

COVID-19 Update

For the months of June and July, 2020, the ISSO is closed on Fridays. We will continue to serve our students and scholars remotely Mondays through Thursdays. Oakland University is still open, but we are handling all requests virtually. The following Remote Request Form is the quickest way to get in touch with us: It will be monitored closely during business hours, and we will respond to you as soon as possible. 
Weekly "ISSO Shares" Meeting
You are invited to a weekly virtual meeting every Thursday from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm with the staff in our office. We will provide updates, discuss timely topics, share some resources, answer commonly asked questions, and provide you the opportunity to directly ask your questions. This Google Meet is open to all international students and scholars.

For OPT/CPT and other immigration processes please scan all of your paperwork and send it to . We often receive incomplete or incorrect paperwork. This will only delay your process. Please make sure you you review everything before sending it to us.
