Biography

I wear many hats as a teacher, program administrator, and public servant. Outside of work and service I am a bibliophile, collector, and Science Fiction enthusiast.

I serve on various department level committees and partner with other WRT faculty in directing OU’s First Year Writing program.

My initial research delved into the intersection of socioeconomic status and civic literacy within critical classroom settings. The work helps me to navigate difficult topics in a classroom environment.

My research and creative work also extend to projects that used use the tools of Cultural
Rhetoric to analyze. I also explore the academic world of comic books, contributing to various popular culture reference publications. On occasion, I have the opportunity to develop creative nonfiction essays and projects.

In service to my community, I hold positions as an appointed commissioner on various boards in the City of Jackson, MI. I am a past president of the Michigan Council of Teachers of English, and I am also on the steering committee for the Michigan Liberal Arts Network for Development (LAND).
