Cost of Attendance

The charts below represent average costs for the academic year, or what is often referred to as the estimated Cost Of Attendance (COA). Cost of Attendance includes both direct expenses that you will pay the school such as tuition and on-campus housing, if applicable, as well as indirect expenses such as books, transportation, off-campus housing and food, and personal miscellaneous expenses - you will not pay the school for these expenses. The tuition estimate in the COA is based on full-time credits per semester for undergraduate students (12+) and graduate students (8+). Total financial aid and other financial assistance cannot exceed Cost of Attendance.

Tuition is charged per credit hour, with the exception of the Physician Assistant program, Graduate Nurse Anesthesia, and Graduate Executive MBA programs, for which tuition is charged per program.

Living expenses include both an amount for housing and food, calculated at three meals per day. Books, Course Materials, Supplies, and Equipment vary depending on student course schedules. Students can purchase books through any book vendor, including the eCampus at Oakland University's University Gear Shop. Personal Miscellaneous Expenses includes amounts for clothing, personal hygiene, healthcare, and personal communications. Transportation reflects travel to and from school, home and/or work.

$248/semester will be added to a student's Cost of Attendance for approved Parent PLUS loans and $279/semester for approved Graduate PLUS loans. Doctor of Nursing Practice will have $1,100 added when students are in the NRS 8504 course.

Oakland University does not allow students to live with dependents on campus and therefore does not have a cost of attendance to reflect this family living structure. Students living in on-base military housing or in housing for which the military provides a basic allowance for housing will have the housing portion, not food, removed from their Cost of Attendance.

OU's cost calculator provides you with an estimate of your direct, billable charges at Oakland University for tuition and on-campus housing. The calculator does not include other indirect, non-billable expenses in your estimated Cost of Attendance.

Base tuition rates apply to courses offered by the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Education and Human Services, and are determined by your class standing. (Find out if you are a lower- or upper-division student on the Tuition Rates page).

Differential tuition rates apply to courses offered by the School of Health Sciences, School of Business Administration, School of Nursing and the School of Engineering and Computer Science. Course numbers determine tuition rates in the academic units with differential tuition: courses 0001-2999 and courses 3000 and above.
