The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships is proud to offer student support through financial aid advising to help you navigate paying for college. We want you to have the most up to date information about federal aid changes, staying on track to graduate by taking financial aid eligible courses necessary for your degree program, and things to consider if you think you might need to withdraw from classes. Our dedicated advising staff is here to help you every step of the way!

On July 1, 2026 many of the laws from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act or Working Families Tax Cuts Act went into effect. The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships has worked diligently to make sure the federal student aid changes have been put in place without delay to student aid. As more information and guidance is released from the Federal Department of Education, we will update the information on our website.

Federal aid eligibility is based on the courses that apply to your specific program of study and beginning Fall 2026 Oakland made this even easier to navigate by implementing Course Program of Study (CPoS) to help you navigate your degree requirements and financial aid before each semester starts.

We know there might be some changes that require you to consider the impact on your education and what choices remain to complete your degree successfully. To help you think through some of those things and understand the financial impact of some academic decisions you make, we've crafted information you need when you're considering withdrawing from a course.
