College Day Program

The College Day program is a partnership between Oakland University and the WDA-KCP Initiative. It is designed for pre-college students as an introduction to higher education. Students spend a day visiting Oakland University in order to learn about the feasibility of higher education and to meet faculty, staff and students. The program can include many or all of the features below. 

Highlights Include:

Academic and Career Explorations: Academic presentations provided by various professional schools and academic departments at Oakland University.

Informational Programs: Informational sessions in critical areas such as admissions and financial aid are presented to students.

Campus Tours: Program mentors accompany students, familiarizing them with Oakland University’s campus.

Lunch in Vandenberg Dining Center: This cafeteria-style dining facility offers a wide variety of all-you-can-eat menu options in a comfortable and convenient location.

Recreational Activities: Amenities include a 50-meter pool, racquetball/squash courts, gymnasium, table tennis and strength/cardiovascular training equipment.

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, in-person visits are currently not being scheduled. Virtual college readiness presentations are being offered to schools and organizations. If interested, please complete the Virtual College Readiness Presentation Request Form

Residential Program

The Residential Program provides pre-college students with an introduction to higher education. Students reside overnight in our residence halls to “get a taste of college life.” The residential program can be designed to meet the needs of participating schools. Highlights include:

  • Career Explorations: Academic presentations provided by various professional schools and academic departments at Oakland University.
  • Informational Programs: Informational sessions in critical areas such as admissions and financial aid are presented to students.
  • Campus Tours: Program mentors accompany students, familiarizing them with Oakland University’s campus.
  • Social Activities: Students participate in various activities to enhance their social awareness. 
  • Recreational Activities: Students are able to utilize OU's state-of-the-art Recreation Center. Amenities include a 50-meter pool, racquetball/squash courts, gymnasium, table tennis and strength/cardiovascular training equipment.

Transition to High School Residential Program

The program is designed as an introduction to high school education for newly entering 9th grade students. Students will reside for three days in our residence halls (dorms) with other transitional 9th grade students to receive guidance on how to make a successful adjustment from middle school to high school.  

Participants will experience a taste of life as a college student. During your stay with us you will be taken on a campus tour led by our program mentors to familiarize you with Oakland University. In addition, you will receive:

  1. academic presentations provided by various professional schools and academic departments
  2. informational programs in critical areas such as time management, study skills, peer pressure, conflict resolution
  3. social and recreational activities
