Oakland University's Department of Music, Theatre and Dance (MTD) is a leading center of performing arts education in southeast Michigan, offering outstanding educational and performance opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students. MTD students enjoy small classes to learn and grow as musicians, actors and dancers in a collaborative and supportive environment.
Students choose to study music, theatre and dance at Oakland for the excellence of its faculty and programs, which are professionally certified by the National Association of Schools of Music, National Association of Schools of Theatre and National Association of Schools of Dance.
Live performances are a major focus of the department. This is where a student's education comes together. Each year, MTD entertains thousands of people at more than 100 events in all areas of music, theatre and dance. The department also hosts
top-notch national and international talent through its Professional Artist Series.
MTD stays connected to the community through initiatives like the Pontiac Oakland Symphony, a professional orchestra with close ties to the department, and music classes that promote life-long learning through the Music Preparatory Division. MTD also offers a number of workshops for music teachers, instrumentalists and various performing artists throughout the year.
