The Women in Science and Engineering at Oakland University (WISE@OU) program aims at initiating and sustaining institutional change.

Facilitated by a diagonal segment of leaders from OU, this project will create a comprehensive program in recruitment, retention, and career development of women and under-represented populations in the disciplines of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

This project is funded by the National Science Foundation ADVANCE program through a Partnerships for Adaptation, Implementation, and Dissemination (PAID) Grant.

WISE@OU is featured in the Spring 2012 Looking into the Future Newsletter.

WISE@OU is built around four complimentary efforts:
  1. Self-assessment: In order to be successful, it is important to fully understand the nature and extent of the problem.
  2. Reform of our recruitment effort: Addressing equity requires a continuous wide-sweeping training of decision makers, raising their awareness of the issues and providing them with tools to combat biases.
  3. Career development of all women: A portfolio of methods and tools will be adapted and implemented to support career development.
  4. Dissemination: We will disseminate our experience, tools, and results to benefit (i) community and small colleges in South East Michigan and (ii) institutions whose policies and procedures are negotiated between the administration and faculty union.
