Heavy smoke reported in the northeast corner of Dodge Hall. The building is being evacuated. Please find the nearest exits towards the south or the east of the building.
The Oakland University Police Department recommends that individuals impacted by this incident utilize the following fire injury prevention tips:
- Whenever possible, activate a building fire alarm and exit the building before calling 911.
- Utilize an established building evacuation plan that includes multiple escape route options.
- If unable to escape a burning building:
- Remain in a non-involved room with the doors and windows closed.
- Use wet towels or other materials to fill any gaps where smoke could enter.
- Stay low to the floor to avoid smoke inhalation.
- Stop, drop and roll to extinguish flames on clothing.
- If safe to do so, move flammable materials away from sources of ignition.
- If available, use water to extinguish embers or flames that enter the space.
- If moving within a burning building, check closed doors for heat before opening.
- Never re-enter a burning building.
