Veterans

Follow the checklist for U.S. military veterans to stay on track during the enrollment process.

Once you’re admitted to Oakland University, you’ll be invited to attend orientation.

  • If you have taken military courses but no college or university courses, you are considered a first-year student so you’ll register for New Student Orientation.

  • If you have taken college or university courses in the past, you are considered a transfer student and you’ll register for Transfer Student Orientation.

Visit the Veterans Certification Office
Oakland's veteran certification is administered within the Office of the Registrar at O'Dowd Hall, room 101A. In this office, you will:

  1. Submit your DD-214, Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE) or Letter of Eligibility.
  2. Receive four free elective credits.
  3. Sign up for priority registration (to register for classes before open registration).
  4. Certify to utilize VA education benefits.
    • Submit plan of study.
    • Transfer GI Bill benefits to Oakland University from previous institutions (if applicable).
  5. Have a point of contact for vocational rehabilitation (Chapter 31), if approved.

Readmission

You’re so close to returning as a Golden Grizzly! Here’s your readmission checklist.

STEP 1. SET UP APPOINTMENT WITH ORIENTATION AND NEW STUDENT PROGRAMS
If you are a readmitted student who is returning to OU after leaving in good academic standing, you may skip this step and proceed to Step 2.

Email gold@oakland.edu and a member of the orientation team will gladly set up an appointment to meet with you.

STEP 2.  REACTIVATE YOUR ACCOUNT
A new system ensures that you can now keep your NetID and OU email account indefinitely; it no longer expires after a year.

When you were initially admitted to OU, you were assigned a Grizzly ID number. If you don't remember your Grizzly ID, please call Undergraduate Admissions at (248) 370-3360 (your Grizzly ID is also located in your acceptance letter).

First, reactivate your NetID using your Grizzly ID and PIN at oakland.edu/reactivate.

You will now have the ability to access your MySAIL account at MySAIL.oakland.edu. Login using your NetID and password for access to important student information, including your OU email account, which should be checked regularly.

Step 3: MEET WITH AN ACADEMIC ADVISER
Visit oakland.edu/advising to find an academic adviser in your desired major.

STEP 4: REGISTER FOR CLASSES
To register for classes:

  1. Visit oakland.edu/registrar/registration/regschedule to review the registration instructions.
  2. After reviewing the instructions, click the "Register Now" button on the above web page. Log in with your NetID and password.
  3. Find the "Registration and Degree Planning" section on the MySAIL homepage. Select "Register Classes."
  4. On the registration menu, click "Register for Classes."

If you receive an error message while registering for a course, please contact Registrar Services at (248) 370-3450.

If readmitted students fail to enroll for the semester or session for which their readmission is granted, that readmission is considered void. If students wish to enroll up to one year from the original term of application for which readmission was granted, they may do so with a request to update their readmission application by calling Undergraduate Admissions at (248) 370-3360. However, if such students wish to enroll for a term later than one year from the term for which they were readmitted, they must complete another readmission application and submit it by the deadlines.
