Students will travel on their own to Glasgow, where they will meet the group. In collaboration with the University of the West of Scotland (UWS), the group will participate in or observe community-based health promotion programs facilitated by South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture, a regional non-profit organization. Programs include adult weight management, cardiac rehab and fall prevention, adult prediabetes prevention and school-based physical activity.
A lecture series hosted at the University of the West of Scotland will cover topics including mHealth and eHealth platforms, mental health and smoking cessation. In addition, South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture will host a seminar on recruiting, training and developing staff.
Students will participate in a traditional Scottish cèilidh and visit sites of local interest including the Surgeon’s Hall Museums, one of the world’s premier collections of medical and surgical artifacts. Throughout, they will have the opportunity to interact with local UWS students.
