Megan Widman (she/her) is a Special Instructor in the Social Work Program, as well as the BSW Program Director. Megan received a BA in Psychology and Spanish from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor and went on to obtain her master’s degree in social work from Wayne State University, with a concentration in Community Practice and Social Action.

Megan’s experience includes direct practice with survivors of sexual and domestic violence as well as educational interventions and primary prevention approaches to ending these crimes. Megan’s nearly 10 years of service at HAVEN entailed roles such as Social Action Program Director and Prevention Education Program Director. As the previous Co-Chair of the Oakland County Coordinating Council against Domestic Violence and Founder of the Farmington Hills High Risk Response team, Megan’s career has been focused on systems change and policy advocacy as a macro social worker.

In addition to her role at Oakland University, Megan serves on the Michigan Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention and Treatment Board, a seven-member legislatively mandated entity that develops and recommends policy, provides technical assistance and training, and administers state and federal funding for domestic and sexual violence services in the state of Michigan. Megan also works as the Research Project Coordinator at the University of Michigan, where she manages a multi-year project examining university responses to campus sexual assault in an uncertain legal context.
