Becky Lewis

Director, University Recreation and Well-Being
Becky leads the Department of University Recreation and Well-Being at Oakland University with a dynamic blend of strategy, creativity, and problem-solving expertise. She oversees the full scope of Rec Well operations—from fitness and well-being programs to intramurals, club sports, and all indoor and outdoor recreation facilities. A strategic leader with a talent for tackling complex challenges, Becky guides budgeting, staff development, assessment, and long-range planning to elevate the health and well-being of the OU community.
With more than 30 years of experience in collegiate recreation, Becky joined OU in 2010 after previous roles at Northern Illinois University and Western Michigan University. She holds a B.A.A. in Journalism from Central Michigan University and an M.S. in Exercise and Health Studies from Miami University (Ohio). Her early start as a group exercise instructor at CMU sparked a lifelong passion for building healthier campuses, and her journalism/marketing background continues to shape how she communicates well-being concepts in ways that inspire action and improve outcomes.
In addition to her Director responsibilities, Becky chairs OU’s Healthy Campus initiative and has cultivated numerous cross-campus partnerships that promote student and employee success. She has served as an adjunct faculty member in both the School of Health Sciences and the Department of Communication and currently sits on the School of Health Sciences Advisory Board. Her leadership includes past service as President of the OU Administrative Professional Association, a Title IX hearing committee chair, and an inaugural member of CMU’s College of Arts and Media Alumni Board. She was honored as OU’s Outstanding Administrative Professional of the Year in 2019.
When she’s off the clock, Becky enjoys football, DIY home projects, and family time with her husband of 30 years and their three “adulting” kids. Her wellness go-tos? A nostalgic 1990s step aerobics class or her new obsession—red-light therapy.
