Cortney Heileman

Assistant Director, Fitness & Well-Being, University Recreation & Well-Being
Cortney’s career spans multiple high-impact wellness roles. At Oakland University, she spent four years as a Health & Wellness Coordinator, supervising Wellness Ambassadors and delivering educational programs that supported student well-being. Prior to that, she served three years at Saginaw Valley State University as Assistant Director for Student Wellness Programs and Peer Health Education Program Coordinator, overseeing Peer Health Educators and implementing campuswide wellness initiatives.
Her earlier experience includes three years at the St. Clair Wellness Center as Facility Manager & Fitness Associate, where she led daily operations, created promotional materials, instructed TRX classes, managed hiring, and coordinated community outreach. She also brings Division I athletics experience from her roles as an Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach and Strength & Conditioning Intern at Oakland University, supporting training program development, facility safety, and athlete performance.
Cortney holds extensive certifications, including Certified Wellness Practitioner, Certified Health & Wellness Coach, safeTalk, Mental Health First Aid, Certified Peer Educator Facilitator, QPR Gatekeeper, One Love Educator, NFC Trainer, ASIST Provisional Trainer, Peer Body Project Trainer, Bringing in the Bystander Trainer, and TRX Trainer. She is an active member of ACHA, NASPA, and the Wellness Alliance.
Her leadership includes roles in the AP Assembly (President, Past President, Professional Development Co-Chair), the Healthy Campus Network, Mental Health Committee, SIAC, Title IX Hearing Committee, and more. She is also a longtime youth group head leader. Cortney’s work has earned recognitions including the OU AP Reward, OU Athletics Impact Player Award, and NASPA Advisor of the Year, along with authorship of a sexual-assault-prevention grant.
When she’s not championing campus well-being, Cortney recharges by heading out for a long run with her dog, Harper—the perfect blend of nature, movement, and quality time.
