Oakland University Groups
Student Organizations
Registered student organizations are encouraged to use the Oakland Center for meetings and events at no charge, assuming the criteria below are all met:
- The meeting room/event space is requested by an authorized officer of the student organization (President, Vice President, Treasurer, or Secretary), and the meeting/event is planned and executed by the requesting student organization
- Over 50% of the attendees are current Oakland University students, faculty, staff, or alumni (it is the responsibility of the organization to prove this criteria)
- *There are no charges to attend
- The meeting/event is not planned in coordination with an external group
- The meeting/event is not marketed to the external community
*If there is a cost to attend a meeting/event the Oakland Center will charge a facility rental fee equal to 20% of the cost of entry OR the University Sponsored rental rate (whichever is less). It is the responsibility of the host organization to provide detailed backup information, otherwise the University Sponsored rate will be the default charge. Student Organizations can request a waiver of the 20% facility fee if the cost of attendance is 100% for fundraising efforts.
Meetings/events may require set-up, cleaning, maintenance and repair, A/V equipment and/or labor, and other rental charges. The Oakland Center will provide known charges in advance of an event. Additional fees and charges that are unexpected or unanticipated may be applied after a meeting/event if required.
Student Organizations shall not use their privileges to access space, resources or services for a non-university group or commercial entity in order to avoid fees. All instances of fronting for off-campus groups or commercial entities will result in an adjustment of all related fees to the full rental rate.
