The Academic Success Center hires Student Office Assistants, Peer Tutors, Supplemental Instruction Leaders and Study Group Leaders. Join our team for a rewarding experience helping your peers.
Description:
SI leaders conduct organized, regularly scheduled practice and review sessions focusing on course-specific content, key concepts and test preparation.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled OU student in a degree seeking program
- Second semester freshman standing or higher
- Minimum 3.7 GPA (A-) in the course(s) you want to lead
- Expertise in the course content areas
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Demonstrated leadership and empathy
- Recommendation from a faculty member in the subject area
Expectations
- Participate in mandatory training prior to the start of the semester.
- Begin work on the first day of class for the semester.
- Attend class and coordinate with the professor.
- Plan and conduct 2-3 SI sessions each week.
- Commit 8-13 hours/week.
- Attend 3-5 hours of professional development meetings throughout the semester.

Peer Tutors help Oakland University students clarify homework assignments, practice related problems, and study course content.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled OU student in a degree seeking program
- Second semester freshman standing or higher
- Minimum 3.7 GPA (A-) in multiple course(s) you want to tutor
- Expertise in relevant content areas
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Demonstrated helpfulness and empathy
- Recommendation from a faculty member in the subject area
Expectations
- Participate in mandatory training prior to the start of the semester.
- Complete 10 hours of training towards tutor certification during the first year as a tutor.
- Consistently show up on time for your regularly scheduled tutoring shifts. Students count on our tutors!
- Demonstrate empathy and behave as a role model
How to apply
- Highest needs are consistently in math, chemistry, and physics, but we are regularly adding other content areas to our schedule.
Job Description:
The Student Office Assistant (SOA) welcomes students, faculty and staff to the Academic Success Center. The main purpose of this job is to greet people as they enter the ASC, register students who come in for tutoring or to use other resources, and help students make appointments or view the tutoring schedule in our online system.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled OU student in a degree seeking program
- Minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA
- Excellent customer service skills
- Friendly and helpful
- Good phone etiquette
Expectations:
- Greet and assist everyone who comes into the ASC
- Register students coming in for tutoring
- Perform basic clerical tasks
- Work flexible hours (must be able to work both days and evenings)
