Faculty Fellow

Call for a Community Engagement Faculty Fellow

First consideration to applications submitted by March 16, 2026

The Office of Community Engagement seeks applications for a Faculty Fellow for the 2026-2027 academic year with the possibility of a renewal. The Community Engagement Faculty Fellow is a leadership role designed for faculty members who wish to share their passion for community-engaged teaching and/or research and help grow the broader community engagement enterprise at OU. This individual will coordinate their work with the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) and the Research Office to develop and implement programs that provide support, mentoring, and other assistance to colleagues across campus.

  • Promoting and supporting the integration of community engagement-related high-impact practices to improve overall student learning outcomes.
  • Leading learning experiences and workshops that assist faculty in work that can include, but is not limited to:
    • designing service-learning and other experience-based opportunities;
    • conceptualizing and designing community-engaged research projects; and
    • establishing effective community partnerships.
  • Mentoring faculty in work that can include, but is not limited to:
    • developing service-learning courses and other experience-based student opportunities;
    • implementing effective pedagogical strategies;
    • applying their research and/or creative activity skills in a community-engagement setting; and
    • navigating community partner relationships;
  • Organizing a campus-wide summit for networking and idea-sharing with potential community partners that results in planning and expansion of community-engaged teaching and research.

Faculty Fellow Criteria

  • Full-time faculty (tenured or tenure-track, special instructors) 
  • Passionate about community-engaged teaching and/or research
  • Demonstrated commitment to student learning and student success
  • Experience with community-engaged teaching and/or research
    • Examples may include, but are not limited to:
      • service learning course development and execution,
      • other experience-based course development and execution
      • community-engaged research projects
      • building community partner relationships
      • successful grant writing for community-engaged projects
  • Experience working with community partners
  • Skills in collaboration, organization, effective presentation skills

  • Letter of intent describing:
    • How you would share your passion for and expertise in community-engaged teaching and/or research and help grow the broader community engagement enterprise at OU.
    • Your interest, experience, and expertise in community-engaged teaching and/or research.
    • Examples demonstrating your commitment to and impact in community-engaged teaching and/or research.
  • CV
  • Letter of support from a colleague who can speak to the applicant’s community-engaged experience.
  • Additional letter from department chair showing support for you as Faculty Fellow, including an agreement to provide one course release in fall and in winter.

After the Office of Community Engagement reviews applications, we will follow up with an interview to discuss the application, ideas, intentions, and logistics. Selections will be made one week after interviews conclude.

Compensation

Each faculty member will receive one course release (or equivalent measure) for the fall and one for the winter along with a $5,000 stipend. In addition, travel to community engagement-focused conferences (e.g., the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities, Campus Compact, and the Engaged Scholarship Consortium) to continue to build knowledge and networks will also be available.
