Biography

Jason Torrente is a special lecturer in the Department of Writing and Rhetoric. Prior to joining Oakland University, Torrente taught undergraduate essay writing, creative nonfiction, and fiction writing at the University of Arkansas. He worked during graduate school as a research assistant in writing and editing at The University of Chicago and the Chicago Public Library.

Torrente's fiction has received various scholarships and awards. In 2012, his feature article entry for the Society of Professional Journalists’ MOE Awards won regional First Place, and recognition in the national finals. Torrente lives in Detroit and is currently at work on a novel set there.
