Biography:
Erin Dwyer  earned her Ph.D. in American Studies from Harvard University in 2012 and began teaching at Oakland University in 2014. She specializes in 19th-century American history, particularly the history of slavery and the Civil War. Her first book,  Mastering Emotions , is forthcoming with the University of Pennsylvania Press. Dr. Dwyer is currently working on a second book project about slavery and poison in the Atlantic World. Dr. Dwyer is also a passionate advocate for public history. She lives in Detroit with her family.
