Amy Butler (Deceased)

Amy Butler (deceased) serves as the Director of Sustainability for Michigan State University. She is responsible for initiating, implementing, and advancing MSU’s strategic approach towards global sustainability. Prior to joining the MSU team, she was the Executive Director at Oakland University’s international business incubator, OU INC. Ms. Butler led OU INC in its mission to provide entrepreneurial resources and strategic business solutions for accelerating ideas to market focused on medical device, energy, and information technology industries.

Ms. Butler’s career in servant leadership has also included nearly 32 years with the State of Michigan, where she directed the State Energy Office and Environmental Science and Services Division. She aligned Michigan’s energy and environmental initiatives, promoting economic growth and job creation through public/private partnerships for the state’s transition to the knowledge economy. Through her leadership she has delivered sustainable solutions to energy, environmental, and economic challenges utilizing best practices and the creation of innovative programs. Ms. Butler was recognized for her career long efforts in energy policy and implementation when inducted into the Michigan Energy Hall of Fame in 2015. In addition, her success in growing business, accelerating innovation and building relationships and talent has been featured in the DBusiness journal “The Faces of Detroit”.

Ms. Butler holds a Bachelor’s degree in biology and a Masters of Business Administration in International Business and Management of Information Systems from Oakland University. She is an accomplished international speaker on Michigan energy policy, sustainability, and economic transformation policies.
