REQUEST A WORKSHOP
The Oakland University Career and Life Design Center collaborates with faculty, staff and student organizations to support student career readiness through customized workshops and presentations. These sessions can be integrated into classrooms, club meetings and campus programs to help students connect their academic experiences with career opportunities.
Workshops are tailored to the goals of the student organization, residence hall, course, co-op, club, chapter, team or department. Typical workshop topics include: Career and Life Design Center overview; Handshake platform; resume review; cover letter creation; internship and job search strategies; LinkedIn and professional profile development; interviewing; and networking.
By collaborating across campus, the Career and Life Design Center helps students build the skills, confidence and professional awareness needed to explore opportunities and successfully launch their careers. Indicate your interest by submitting the form below with at least two weeks' notice. We'll reach out to confirm details.
BECOME A CAREER CHAMPION
Another opportunity for campus partners includes joining a campus-wide network of "champions" who are helping students design lives of meaning, purpose and possibility here at Oakland University.
The Career Champions program equips faculty and staff with tools to help students explore their goals, make informed choices about majors and careers, and feel confident in taking the next steps in their journey. Through workshops and shared resources, Career Champions learn how to integrate career readiness principles into everyday interactions with students, regardless of their role on campus.
As a Career and Life Design Champion, you’ll learn how to:
- Recognize and respond to career-related moments with meaningful resources;
- Connect students to career resources such as Handshake and Life Design tools;
- Incorporate career readiness into advising, teaching or mentoring; and
- Refer students to the Career and Life Design Center.
You don’t have to be a career expert to become a Career and Life Design Champion; you just need to be someone who supports students! For more information, contact Career and Life Design Director Kelly Dorner at [email protected].
