INITIAL RESPONSE PROTOCOLS IN CASES OF ABUSE
A Prioritized Guide to Actions Required to Protect Children and Young Adults
Position Statement on Protecting Children and Young Adults on Campus
Oakland University’s highest priority in providing exemplary academic, athletic and social programs for youth is protecting the health, safety and welfare of all participants. To achieve this critically important goal, carefully screened and highly trained personnel enforce protocols designed to ensure safe conduct and supportive interaction between youth and program leaders.
PROTOCOLS
Step 1
- Remove the child from immediate harm in any situation in which abuse is occurring.
Step 2
- Immediately report the abuse to the Oakland University Police Department by calling (248) 370-3331 from cell phones or by dialing 911 from any campus telephone or by sending a text message starting with the letters OUPD to MRAVE (67283).
Step 3
- Report the situation to your supervisor, unless they are the source of the abuse or neglect.
