Summer Camps

The Oakland University School of Music, Theatre and Dance presents virtual and in-person Summer Camps and Intensives for 2021 for high school students (Virtual Summer Brass Intensive open to college students as well).

Pursue excellence in music and theatre studies this summer and gain exposure to rigorous training with faculty of the Oakland University School of Music, Theatre and Dance. Join like-minded students in studying, collaborating and performing your art form.

THEATRE CAMPS:

Triple-Threat Theatre Camp (Virtual)
A theatre “triple threat” is someone that excels at acting, singing and dancing. Work towards your “triple threat” status as the OU Department of Theatre presents a series of five daily acting/singing/dancing classes as well as a Meet the Faculty session. There will be an additional evening session with Broadway star Laura Michelle Kelly. Previous singing and dancing experience required. We will cap enrollment at 12 so register right away.
Dates/Times: June 21-25 (Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. - 5:15 p.m.; additional Wednesday, 7 - 8:30 p.m.)

Summer Shakespeare Camp: The Tempest (In Person)
The OU Department of Theatre presents a week of rehearsal sessions of Shakespeare’s The Tempest, culminating in a 10:30 a.m. performance on Saturday, July 17 on our outdoor festival stage. We will exercise non-traditional casting. We will cap enrollment at 20 students. All who register must also perform a brief audition via zoom the evening of June 21. Sign up for your audition time. Shortly after you have signed up for your audition, you will be emailed the audition material and instructions.

Dates/Times: July 12-17: Monday through Friday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.; Saturday 9:00 a.m. student arrival, 10:30 a.m. Performance

MUSIC CAMPS:

Virtual Summer Brass Band Intensive (Virtual)
Oakland University’s Virtual Summer Brass Band Intensive provides students with daily sessions on warm-ups and routine building, instrumental master classes, and presentations by world class brass artists. The culmination of the camp will feature a virtual video with members of the Oakland University Brass Band. 

Dates/Times: July 12-15, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. via Zoom

Register for the Summer Brass Intensive

OU Summer Jazz Intensive (In Person)
The OU Summer Jazz Intensive will allow students of all levels and instruments to expand their knowledge in improvisation, ensemble techniques and jazz fundamentals. We will also cover topics such as the history and lineage of jazz, bridging classical to jazz, jazz as language and much more. Students will be placed in a combo. The format will feature multiple daily 50-minute sessions that include listening, improvisation and ensemble rehearsals.
Dates/Times: July 26-30 (Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m. - 3:20 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. encompassing a performance at 11:00 a.m.)

Ages: High School Instrumentalists (entering 9th grade through graduating seniors)
