Dr. Guolan Yang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication, Journalism, and Public Relations. She earned her Ph.D. in mass communications from the Pennsylvania State University in 2020. Before she pursued a Ph.D., Yang had accumulated professional experience in traditional and new media.

Yang focuses her research on the impacts of campaign messages and sponsored influencer content on consumer psychology and their purchase, health, and prosocial behaviors. She has received top paper awards consecutively for four years recognized by the Association of Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC). Her work has been published in prestigious journals like the International Journal of Advertising and the Journal of Interactive Advertising. At Oakland University, Yang teaches Introduction to AdvertisingDigital AdvertisingAdvertising Creative Strategy, and Advertising Account Planning and Research. Her classes teach the fundamentals of today’s advertising profession and offer hands-on learning experiences where students function as part of an ad agency to develop campaigns for local businesses.
