If you are having problems connecting to the vpn please check the minimum system requirements on http://www.oakland.edu/secs/cto/remote/vpn, then follow this step by step troubleshooting guide.

Do not use Chrome! It is not supported by the vpn appliance.

1. Download the  latest version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
2. Install Firefox, install guides can be found at http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Installing%20Firefox
3. Open Firefox and type remote.secs.oakland.edu into the awesome bar bar, and press enter
   
   
   1. If prompted with a security warning press the "ok" button.
      
4. Enter your SECS username and password. and press "Log in"
   
   1. If you receive the message "The credential provided where invalid" Please see  http://www.oakland.edu/secs/cto/accounts
   2. If you receive the "Missing components" message you probably do not have the java jre installed. 
      
      1. Choose the "Log out option"
      2. You can install java from  http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp. 
      3. If you believe you already have java you can confirm this and which version you are using by visiting  http://javatester.org/version.html. 
      4. If after an install it is still not working, it may be disabled. See http://java.com/en/download/help/enable_browser.xml
5. You should now be successfully logged in.  Access: full Network Access should be displayed in the status bar on the page. 
1. If you see web only in the status bar and did not see the "Missing components" message, it could be a Firefox plugin causing the issue. To rule this out open Firefox in safe mode, instructions to do so are http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode. Known plugins to cause issues are: addblocker, and auto pager.
