Ronald M. Horwitz

Ronald M. Horwitz, Ph.D., is Professor Emeritus of Finance at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. He retired as an active member of the faculty in 2002. From 1979-1990 he served as Dean of the School of Business Administration. During 1992-93, he was acting Vice President for Academic Affairs. Prior to joining Oakland University, he served on the faculty of the University of Detroit for 15 years, five of which were as Chair of the Department of Accounting and Finance. He was also associated with the Detroit Office of Arthur Young & Company where he was a Health Care Specialist and Director of Professional Development.

Dr. Horwitz is a native Detroiter, receiving his B.S. (Accounting) and M.B.A. from Wayne State University. He was awarded his Ph.D. (Financial Administration) from Michigan State University.  He is a Certified Public Accountant (Michigan).

He “termed-off” the Board of Trustees of Providence Hospital and Medical Centers, Southfield, in 2009 and served as a member of its Quality Committee until 2022. Horwitz was part of Providence's governance system for more than 42 years. Dr. Horwitz was a member of the Ascension Health (St. Louis) Audit Committee.

Dr. Horwitz specialized in Medicare hospital reimbursement.  He published extensively in the fields of hospital financial management and accounting in several academic and professional journals.

Dr. Horwitz is a Director Emeritus of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

Dr. Horwitz is a member of Marriott Vacation Club’s Desert Springs Villas II (Palm Desert, CA) Board of Directors where he chairs the investment and audit committees. He has lectured on timeshares and timeshare governance in several university hospitality administration programs. He has also published in this field.

In his retirement, Dr. Horwitz directs duplicate bridge games for the Bridge Connection (Southfield, MI). He was a co-chair of the American Contact Bridge League's Detroit 2008 North American Bridge Championships (NABC). He is a bridge Ruby Life Master.
