Summer Camps

The Oakland University Center for Autism (OUCARES) offers a variety of summer day camps for individuals on the autism spectrum ages 3 years old through Teens.

Oakland University’s highest priority in providing exemplary academic, athletic and social programs for youth is protecting the health, safety and welfare of all participants. To achieve this critically important goal, carefully screened and highly trained personnel enforce protocols designed to ensure safe conduct and supportive interaction between youth and program leaders. Pee Wee Camp - 3-6 year olds

Our Pee Wee Camp activities will be focusing on maintaining known skills and acquiring new skills to improve quality of life. All activities are structured and are planned around a theme. Language Arts, Sensory Fun, Water Fun, Sports & Fitness, Arts and Crafts, Social Skills, Music, Fine Motor Fun and so much more!

Summer 2023 Pee Wee Camp Dates:
Monday-Friday 9am-3pm
Session 1: June 19 - June 30 - 2 weeks
Session 2: July 10 - July 21 - 2 weeks
Session 3: July 24 -  August 4 - 2 weeks
Session 4: August 7 - August 11 - 1 week*

Summer camp 2023 is full 
Cost: $750 for each two week session.  *$390 for session 4

Summer Day Camp - 7-12 year olds

Each week will be filled with loads of fun including arts and crafts, sensory time, social skills, gross motor activities and much more! Camp activities will be recreational with an academic component. All activities are highly structured and are planned around a weekly theme. Summer day campers must be independent in toileting and able to engage in activities with the support of 1 adult for every 3 campers.

NEW Gaming Camp - 11-14 year olds

OUCARES' new one-week gaming camp is an exciting opportunity for adolescents on the autism spectrum to develop social, communication, and independence skills while gaming interactively with peers in person. Campers will practice social skills and improve communication while learning to build a MineCraft world together and work collaboratively. All camp activities will be based around teamwork, developing friendships, and working towards common goals. Camp is designed for individuals who have an interest in gaming, are able to independently navigate on a computer with minimal directions, and do not need 1:1 support.

Summer 2023 Gaming Camp Dates:
Monday-Friday 9am-3pm
Session 1: June 26 - June 30 - 1 week

Teen Life Skills Camp - 11-14 and 15-18 year olds

Teen Life Skills Camp is for teens and adolescents who want to meet new friends and grow their independence skills. Each session will be full of fun activities focused on learning life skills including:

  • Practical Living Skills: Clothing care, menu planning, nutrition
  • Interpersonal Skills: Initiative/dependability, anger management, conflict resolution, self-esteem, social skills, and self-confidence
  • Personal Management Skills: Money management, time management, personal health care

Daily Activities will include personal health care (such as exercise, personal hygiene and clothing care) and team-building activities to build appropriate communication and socialization skills. Teen life skills campers must be independent in toileting and able to engage in activities with the support of no more than 1 adult for every 3 campers.

Monday-Friday 9am-3pm
