Constitution and Bylaws

The Constitution and By-laws of the BFA provides detailed information on the governance structure of the organization, mission, membership, governance, meetings, structure, and association procedures, elections, committee authority, and more.

BFA Committees

Membership Development Committee: The role of the is to maintain a roll call of the current membership and serves to recruit new members. The committee will also market the OU-BFA to Black Faculty at OU, inviting them to become active members. The Committee is also responsible for engaging former Black Faculty and affiliates of OU to become non-voting members of the OU-BFA.

Communication & Technology/Fundraising Committee: The committee provides relevant, current, and useful online member-driven information, designed to enhance the value of the BFA membership. The committee also actively seeks contributions from community patrons and plans activities that will generate funds for supporting the BFA.

Recruitment and Access Committee: The committee works collaboratively with Human Resources, Black Student Union, Office of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity, Office of Students Success, the Offices of University Outreach and Recruitment, Black Employee Resource Group (BERG) and other campus groups to promote the recruitment of Black full-time and part-time faculty members. The committee also supports community events (i.e., recruitment activities, Orientation days, MLK events, Taste of Africa, Juneteenth celebrations etc.) for BFA participation.

Mentoring Committee: The committee designs and develops mentoring programs for faculty members at all tiers (special lecturer, assistant, associate, and full professor) for guidance on teaching, scholarship, service, promotion, tenure, and professional development.

Scholarship Committee: The committee determines the number, type, and criteria for BFA scholarships. The committee solicits and secures funding for scholarships and determines the guidelines for awarding scholarships. The committee works in conjunction with the Recognition Ceremony Committee on the planning and execution of the annual OU-BFA Scholarship Banquet.

Recognition Ceremony Committee: The committee is responsible for planning and implementing the annual recognition of new Black Faculty, graduating Black students, promoted Black Faculty members, and retiring Black Faculty/staff. The Committee organizes any other approved event such as the Scholarship Banquet.

Nominating Committee: The committee is responsible for soliciting active/current members who are willing and able to carry out the responsibilities of the offices described in the OU-BFA Constitution and By Laws. The committee is responsible for validating the current membership of potential candidates.

By-laws Committee: The committee reviews and recommends revisions of the by-laws to the membership on a periodic basis.
