Prepare for Registration

A little preparation goes a long way. Before registering for courses, take the time to complete the necessary steps and review the resources available to support you. These tools are designed to help you register smoothly and on time.

Complete these tasks first
  • Review Degree Works to confirm you’re on track and understand your remaining requirements.
  • Meet with your academic adviser to review your academic plan and course options. You can schedule an appointment by following the instructions for your advising unit.
  • Check and resolve any holds on your account that may prevent you from registering by logging into your MySail and viewing the “Holds and Restrictions” widget. Not sure what to do about a hold? Contact the department(s) listed for more information.
Get ready to register
  • Find your registration date by your class standing and earned credit hours. Mark this date on your calendar!
  • Use the class schedule search to search for specific sections of classes you want to register for. Have your first-choice classes on a list, with a couple of alternatives, so you can register promptly without having to search when a class is full.  Better yet, use the Plan Ahead feature to create up to four schedule options in advance.
  • Verify that you meet the prerequisites for your courses before you try to register.  You can find prerequisites for courses in the course descriptions in the undergraduate catalog or by clicking on the title of a course you select in the class schedule search.
  • Avoid most technical issues ahead of time by having your NetID and password on hand (If needed, go to netid.oakland.edu for information on resetting your NetID password).
