Students - Start Your Search

Unlock your potential through the power of The OU Pledge! From internships to co-ops to service-learning courses and more, Oakland University is committed to providing our undergraduates with meaningful, experience-based learning opportunities that set the stage for your future success. Since the February 2025 launch of The OU Pledge, our undergraduate students have had access to more than 3,000 opportunities through our Handshake career platform alone — but there are multiple resources and pathways available at OU to help find your next experience-based learning opportunity.

Follow these steps to get started on finding your next internship, co-op, service-learning course, community engagement or research opportunity!

1. Check the Career Pages

Start by checking our searchable program list for your major, where you’ll find links to either a Career Page or a Program Page. Career Pages, which feature an Elliott Tower photo along the top, display active internship postings via RSS feeds that are updated daily and posted toward the bottom of the page. (If the Career Page for your major doesn’t feature an RSS feed for internships, be sure to click on the gold Program Requirements button to link to your major’s Academic Program Page to find opportunities.) Click on the internship listing in the RSS feed for a preview of the job. Be sure to log in to Handshake to access additional details and to apply.

2. Explore the Academic Program Pages

These pages, which are available for each major, list examples of experience-based learning opportunities and high-impact practices specific to the department. Students also are encouraged to seek out major-specific resources, such as newsletters, and reach out to internship coordinators, faculty and staff in their department for information about hands-on opportunities and how to apply to them.

3. Visit the Career and Life Design Center

Drop in or make an appointment with the coaches and staff in the Career and Life Design Center, located in North Foundation Hall, Room 103. They can help you find the right internship or experience-based learning opportunity. Their personalized approach includes not only “traditional” career services, such as resume and cover letter review and interview practice, but also comprehensive support delivered through the lens of “design thinking.” This approach empowers you to explore your interests; discover opportunities for work that aligns with your strengths and values; and connect with the community around you by building a strong personal brand.

For more information, visit the Career and Life Design Center in North Foundation Hall, Room 103, or email [email protected]. There are also Career and Life Design teams for the School of Business Administration in Elliott Hall, Room 232, and the School of Engineering and Computer Science in the Engineering Center, Rooms 257, 259 and 263.

4. Connect with the Coordinator

Experiential Learning and Internship Coordinator Juretta Bailey-Grajewski helps prepare students for meaningful internships and opportunities for future success. She also collaborates with faculty, employers and campus partners to support The OU Pledge. Make an appointment via Handshake to meet with Juretta between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
