Academic Advising

Proper and regular advising is a key to successfully and efficiently completing your degree. Each student should see two advisers – a professional adviser in the College of Arts and Sciences and a faculty adviser in the Political Science Department.

Each student who is a major in our department is assigned a faculty adviser who focuses their teaching in your specific program. At the time you declare yourself a PS, IR, or PA major, you will receive an email from the department letting you know who your adviser is. Every student should meet with their professional adviser and faculty adviser multiple times per year. Faculty advisers can help plan courses in your major, talk to you about career options, give advice about internships, and any guide you through any other aspect of your time spent in the Political Science Department.

If you do not know who your adviser is, please contact the department office at (248) 370-2352 and we will let you know with whom you should set up an appointment.
