Program Description

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

The requirement for the MPA is 40 credits. All required courses are offered during weekday evenings and, in some cases, on Saturdays. If students successfully carry a normal load, it will be possible to complete the program in two calendar years, starting in the fall of one year and ending in the spring/summer of the next academic year.

Core requirement courses 24 Credits
Electives (generalist or concentration) 12 Credits
Internship or Master's Project 4 Credits
Total Program 40 Credits

Foundation Requirements

Program director will review undergraduate transcript to determine if these courses are needed. They are not required of all students entering the program and are not included in the 40 credit program total.

  • PA 522 - Research Perspective and Techniques
  • PA 524 - Introduction to Government and Nonprofit Accounting
  • PA 526 - Government and the Economy

Core Requirement Courses - 24 Credits

The following core courses are required. The core 24 credits must be taken at Oakland University unless prior departmental written permission is obtained.

Electives - 12 Credits. The program is structured to provide a focus of 12 elective credits on top of the generalist core. Master of Public Administration students do not need to concentrate. Any 12 credit hours from the list below will serve toward degree completion. Anyone choosing to concentrate must take all 12 elective credits in their concentration of study. See separate concentrations below for electives applicable to each concentration. Several electives can be applied to more than one concentration.
