My name is Yue Zhuo, and I was born in Guizhou province in China. I come to Oakland University to earn my P.h.D. in reading education.

I am a fourth-generation teacher so I had it as my desire to teach and work with students.

Yue, speaking in a classroom with children: “In China, we call teacher ‘laoshi, laoshi.’”

Yue and children speaking: “Loashi”, “Loashi.”

I choose Oakland University for two reasons: I get my master’s degree like ten years before. As a college teacher, I think it’s time for continuous study again so you should give more things to learn for your students. I really want to see the English-speaking countries, what they ‘e looking like, since we all learn English in our country so you never know what happened outside.

Yue speaking to children: “Who is “Nuháimen? Girls, right?”

I teach counting numbers in Chinese from one to ten. I teach them how to call the family member: father, mother, younger sister, younger brother.

The ISSO gives us some like great experience of American culture, especially for important festivals of America; the Halloween, Easter, Christmas and even the Chinese New Year. They organized those events for the international students so while we can experience the American culture and also can feel at home at the same time. I love the Rochester community area. We have a wonderful and beautiful park right near my apartments. It’s a beautiful downtown, people are so nice here, so this is a really good place to live.

Yue, speaking in Chinese: I made a good decision to come to Oakland University.
