Veterans Week

From November 7-11, Oakland University will host a series of events and activities for Veterans Week. Check the listing below for opportunities to support and celebrate veterans, including more than 200 student, faculty and staff veterans on campus. 

Monday, November 7 | 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Join OU Veterans Support Services for a “Mess Hall Monday” meal
Oakland Center, West Entrance (near welcome desk)

Tuesday, November 8 | 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Road March (one-mile walk around campus) and food drive sponsored by Student Veterans of OU student organization
Elliott Tower
Please bring non-perishable food items to support the Golden Grizzlies Pantry

Wednesday, November 9 | 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Meet the staff of Veterans Support Services and SVOU student organization
Oakland Center, Douglas Overlook Room (above Habitat)
Create a Valentine, Easter, 4th of July or Halloween card for a veteran living in the Michigan Veteran Home of Chesterfield. Supplies will be provided. Cards will be mailed by OU Veterans Support Services staff throughout the year.

SVOU-sponsored OU Veterans Bonfire and Family Event
Bonfire Pit, Upper Fields
Bring your family to enjoy a bonfire, s’mores and refreshments with OU student veteran families

Veteran Recognition Luncheon – by invitation
Oakland Center, Gold Rooms A, B and C
Presentation of sponsored scholarship awards for OU Veterans. 
Keynote speaker Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Douglas A. Merritt, Jr.

Friday, November 11 | 7 p.m.
Military Appreciation Night at the Men’s Basketball Game
O’rena, Athletics Center
Tickets available at the luncheon or in the O’rena before the game

Veterans Week at Oakland University is sponsored by Magna, the David N. Sokol Scholarship for Veterans, and Northwestern Mutual/Wilshire Benefits Group.

In addition to Veterans Week celebrations, Oakland University acknowledges and supports U.S. military veterans through a host of programs and services. The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency recently awarded OU Gold-level status on its 2022 list of veteran-friendly schools, the sixth consecutive year the university has achieved this honor.
