Oakland University’s School of Music, Theatre and Dance will present two performances of Mozart’s comic masterpiece, Così fan tutte, on May 5 and 7 in Varner Recital Hall on the OU campus.

Reimagined on a beach in 1970s Michigan, Così fan tutte tells the story of two pairs of young lovers testing the strength of their relationships.

With beautiful melodies, graceful singing, and comic shenanigans, the performance is sure to entertain audiences. It is directed by Drake Dantzler, associate professor of music; and features musical direction by Victoria Shively, a special lecturer in music.

Così fan tutte features some of the most beautiful melodies and musical moments in the operatic cannon,” Dantzler said. “The first act trio is sublime. But Così’s comic material and youthful exuberance is uniquely suited for talented college students. It provides our young singers a chance to shine, be it in their singing, their acting, or their comic timing.”

Tickets are available online at etix.com for $22 general, $18 seniors and groups, and $12 students.

Those interested in learning more about the opera are invited to attend a free panel discussion at 7 p.m. on May 4 in Room 206 in Varner Hall. Topics will include: feminism, lake ecology, and the historical reception and treatment of Così fan tutte with guest experts from the College of Arts and Sciences, including David Kidger, associate professor of musicology; Jo Reger, professor of sociology and department chair; and Nicole Wagner, assistant professor of biological sciences.
