Timothy Craig Allen, M.D., J.D.

An image of Timothy Craig AllenDr. Allen joins us from the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he served as chair and medical director for the Department of Laboratory Services and medical student course director for Pathology.

He received his bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Texas. He completed an internship in obstetrics and gynecology, a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology and a fellowship in pulmonary pathology, all at Baylor College of Medicine affiliated hospitals. He is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology as well as cytopathology. He also completed a juris doctor degree at the University of Chicago and practiced law for four years. He has practiced pathology in both community hospitals and academic hospitals and has served on the faculties of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler, the University of Texas Medical Branch and the University of Mississippi.

With research interests in pulmonary pathology including lung cancer, mesothelioma and acute lung injury, lung cancer biomarkers, medical humanities and medical jurisprudence, Dr. Allen has participated in many grants and published numerous abstracts and peer-reviewed papers. He is active in lecturing on medical malpractice and lung pathology both nationally and internationally.

Dr. Allen serves on the editorial boards of several major pathology journals including the “American Journal of Clinical Pathology” and “Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine,” where he serves as an associate editor. He has received several awards including the College of American Pathologists President’s Award.
