This year, Oakland University hosted several of our academies for a College Day Visit and tour of campus. We were thrilled to host three different schools, Universal Academy's eighth and eleventh graders, Four Corners Montessori eighth graders and Weston Academy’s eighth graders. This is a great opportunity for prospective students to learn firsthand all about the college experience and all the amazing opportunities provided by Oakland University for incoming undergraduate students. The tour began in Wilson Hall, where the new Undergraduate Admissions office is located, student ambassadors of various degrees of studies welcome the students. An introductory presentation about the university is then given, providing students with an overview of all OU has to offer. For eleventh grade students, there is a special emphasis on the application process, scholarship information and information on housing.
The students are split into groups to tour the primary parts of campus. While at the Oakland Center, students walked through the dining area, visited the bookstore and learned about the various student organizations on the campus. After seeing the Oakland Center, students tour other buildings that serve as important resources for incoming freshmen such as the Kresge Library, the Writing Center, North Foundation Hall, Office of Registrar and the Career and Life Design Center.
Students were also able to see the residences at Hamlin Hall and the Honors College while learning about the benefits of living on campus. At noon, the groups met at Vandenberg Hall for lunch, dessert and a trivia game to test them on their OU knowledge. The top three winners received special Oakland merchandise to take home.
