Oakland University’s 21st annual Diverse Voices Conference will take place virtually via Zoom at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 9. The goal of the conference is to provide a supportive forum for OU students, faculty, staff and community members to learn about and speak out in support of valuing all aspects of human diversity and the need for a socially just society.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Defining Human Diversity Beyond Representation.”

“This theme aims to send a critical message to its attendees that human diversity expands beyond how we see individuals, as there are many aspects of human diversity that are not visible,” said Dr. Chaunda L. Scott, founder/president of the Diverse Voices Conference and professor of Human Resource Development (HRD) in the School of Education and Human Services (SEHS).

The keynote speaker for this year’s conference will be Dr. Joshua Collins, associate professor of Human Resource Development in the Department of Policy and Development and the director of Undergraduate Studies at the University of Minnesota.

Additional Oakland University guest speakers include:

• Dr. Audra Slocum, director of teacher education for the SEHS

• Dr. Robert Martin, special lecturer from the Department of Organizational Leadership in SEHS

• Dr. Kat Stephens-Peace, visiting assistant professor from the Department of Organizational Leadership in SEHS

• Alexandria Garman, PHR, public relations specialist at Spar Marketing Force, Inc. in Auburn Hills, Mich. and a 2019 SEHS graduate from the HRD Undergraduate Program

• Angie Freeman, a SEHS graduate student in the Human Diversity, Inclusion and Social Justice Certificate Program

• Kim Gries, a SEHS undergraduate student in the HRD Undergraduate Program.

Entertainment will be provided by The Sounds of Blackness, a renowned three-time Grammy Award winning choir.

There is no charge to attend this year’s Diverse Voices Conference and the event is open to the Oakland University community.
