Office of Public School Academies Recognizes 2026 Book Writing Contest Winners

Oakland University’s Public School Academies recently celebrated another year of their annual Book Writing Contest in honor of National Reading Month.

The annual contest encourages students to showcase their creativity while recognizing their writing and illustration talents. This year’s theme was robots, inspiring scholars to explore topics such as friendship, exploration and discovery. Through their stories, the students embraced the science fiction genre and stretched their imaginations to create worlds filled with endless possibilities.

The winning titles included:

  • Robot on the Planet Lumia — Zlata Senyk (Caniff Liberty Academy)
  • My Friend with a Hollow Heart — Drex Natividad (Detroit Edison Public School Academy)
  • My Robot Friend — Summer Alhaj (Universal Academy)
  • How My Cousin Turned Into a Robot — Muntasse Muthana (Universal Academy)
  • How a Robot Became My Friend — Rebecca Driskell (Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences)

Student winners received their awards from Public School Academies staff members during their respective schools’ board meetings and classroom celebrations alongside their peers. Each winner also received a gift bag that included a certificate and a published copy of their book.
