Oakland University President Ora Hirsch Pescovitz, M.D., has been recognized as one of the Top 50 Detroit Women Leaders of 2026 by the Detroit Chapter of the Women Leaders Association.

The annual recognition honors women whose leadership, professional accomplishments and community impact have helped shape the Detroit region. Pescovitz was selected for her distinguished career in higher education, health care, research and civic leadership, as well as her continued efforts to advance student success and strengthen Oakland University's role as a regional and national leader.

Notably, Pescovitz was the only leader of a college or university included among the Top 50 Detroit Women Leaders of 2026. The honorees include CEOs, presidents and senior executives from many of Michigan's largest corporations, health systems, philanthropic organizations and public institutions, highlighting the significance of the recognition and Oakland University's growing influence across the region.

“I am honored to be recognized among such an extraordinary group of women leaders,” Pescovitz said. “This recognition reflects the exceptional work of our entire university community and our shared commitment to opening doors, strengthening communities and preparing students for lives of purpose, service, and success.”

According to the organization, the Top 50 Detroit Women Leaders recognition celebrates accomplished women leaders who serve as role models and inspire others through their professional achievements and commitment to their communities. Honorees were selected based on the scope of their leadership responsibilities, the reach of their organizations and their contributions to Detroit's economic and civic future.
