OU Community Music offering virtual lessons at discounted rates during holiday season

Give the gift of music this holiday season with Oakland University Community Music virtual lessons, which are currently being offered at a discounted rate.

“New students can take five lessons in the first five weeks of the winter semester for a discounted price of $125 — that’s $30 off the regular price,” said OU Community Music Director Elizabeth Medvinsky, noting that each session lasts about 30 minutes.

OU Community Music will also be offering new online group classes beginning January 18.

The classes will be held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will include musical story time for younger musicians, beginning piano for preschoolers, group classes with band instruments for middle school players, singing classes, and music theory.

“We are trying to offer musical experiences for children who might not be getting as much music in school due to current circumstances, and to give more opportunities to students who are home with time and have a passion for music,” Medvinsky said.

“All of these classes are being offered at low prices, from $50 to $80, for five weeks to make them accessible to everyone,” she added. “If families are interested but are financially unable to register, they can email us for possible options.”

Rochester Hills resident Sarah Hartmus, 16, has been studying voice through OU Community Music for more than four years, and called it “a fantastic experience.”

“It has had such a positive effect on me as an artist,” Hartmus said. “My time in the OU Community Music program has not only made me a far better singer, but it has opened doors to countless opportunities and experiences.”
