Student Life Lecture Board welcomes ‘Hamilton’ star Javier Muñoz March 10
The Student Life Lecture Board virtual speaker for Winter Semester 2021 will be “Hamilton” star Javier Munoz.

The Student Life Lecture Board virtual speaker for Winter Semester 2021 will be “Hamilton” star Javier Muñoz. He will speak to the OU community on Wednesday, March 10, at 7 p.m. via Zoom.  The event is co-sponsored by the Oakland University Student Congress.

“This is really exciting news that should appeal to a diverse and inclusive OU audience,” said Jean Ann Miller, senior director, Office for Student Involvement. “It is also timely for OU's Pride Month, which celebrates the opportunities to learn from and about the LGBTQIA community.”

Muñoz is an actor and activist whose impressive body of work spans theater, film and television. However, Javier is best known for starring as Alexander Hamilton in the cultural-phenomenon musical “Hamilton” on Broadway for two years after Lin-Manuel Miranda departed the show. He was also the alternate lead during Miranda’s time with the show.

Late night comedian Stephen Colbert once referred to Javier Muñoz as “the Sexy Hamilton” during an interview on his show that highlighted his professional and personal accomplishments.

Muñoz got his break starring as Usnavi in “In the Heights” on Broadway, a show also created by Miranda. Soon, he will star in the dark comedy indie feature, “Monuments.” He has also had guest roles in the television shows, “Shadowhunters,” “Blindspot” and “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.” Other recent theater credits include “The New Englanders” at the Manhattan Theatre Club and the starring role in the North American premiere of Stephen Lloyd Helper’s “A Sign of the Times.”

Muñoz is also an outspoken activist for LGBTQ+ rights and a Global Ambassador for (RED), which fights to end HIV/AIDS. Muñoz was honored with the prestigious OUT100 Breakout of the Year award in 2016, as well as the Howard Ashman Award by the Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC). Javier now serves on the Board of GMHC.

There is no cost to attend this virtual event. RSVP to attend the event at https://oaklandu.campuslabs.com/engage/event/6961231
